Welcome card for Fodil Yacine Redouane, PhD student in quantum optimisation at NEDMIL

We are pleased to welcome Fodil Yacine Redouane to NEDMIL. Fodil is a PhD student in Quantum Computing at the University of Oran 1 Ahmed Ben Bella, Algeria, where he began his doctorate in 2025.

Doctoral Research

Fodil's thesis investigates hybrid quantum-classical algorithms for vehicle routing problems — one of the classic hard problems of operations research and a long-standing focus of the consortium. His work involves QUBO (quadratic unconstrained binary optimisation) formulations, quantum annealing, and hybrid and decomposition-based approaches designed to address the scalability limits of current quantum optimisation methods.

His doctorate is supervised by Karim Bouamrane, Area Lead at NEDMIL, and co-supervised by Shahin Gelareh, also an Area Lead — a direct link between the consortium's work on routing and network optimisation and the emerging field of quantum optimisation.

Background

Fodil holds a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence and Applications and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology of Oran Mohamed-Boudiaf (USTO-MB). Alongside his studies he has built substantial software projects, including a compiler for a custom programming language, a real-time client-server game, and a machine-learning model for abnormal heart rhythm detection.

Welcome to NEDMIL, Fodil — we look forward to following your research.
